Current Opportunities

R+A Engineering is looking for an intermediate structural engineer to join our Vernon team. This is a role for someone three to five years into their career who wants real project responsibility, working directly with our principals and a strong team of EITs and technologists.

ABOUT THE ROLE

You would work across our full range of building structural projects: multi-family and mixed-use housing, custom homes, commercial, and institutional work across western Canada. Depending on your experience, you would take on structural design, analysis, drawing production and detailing, and construction administration, with increasing ownership as you grow.

You would be supported, not thrown in the deep end. You would have principals and senior engineers close at hand for mentorship and review, and you would be given work that challenges you at a pace you can handle.

WHAT WE ARE LOOKING FOR

·      A degree in engineering with 3-6 years of structural experience

·      Registration as an E.I.T. or P.Eng. with EGBC

·      A solid working knowledge of the BCBC, including wood construction and seismic design

·      A strong working knowledge of the BCBC

·      Multi-family residential experience is an asset, but not required.

·      A practical approach to design and an understanding of how buildings are actually built

·      Strong written and verbal communication

·      Experience with Sizer/Forte, SAFE, ETABS, RFEM, and Revit is an asset

WHAT R+A OFFERS

We are a small firm, which means you would take on real responsibility early, and you would have direct access to the principals for guidance and support. We have invested in good systems and clear workflows, so your time can actually go to engineering. The variety of our work, from housing to custom homes to institutional projects, means you would build a broad foundation rather than getting boxed into one project type.

LOCATION

This role is based in our Vernon office, with a hybrid schedule available. We value thein-person collaboration and mentorship that come from working alongside the team, which matters most at this stage of your career.

COMPENSATION AND BENEFITS

·       Base salary of $80,000 to $110,000, depending on experience

·       Performance bonus

·       Extended health benefits

·       Flexible schedule and relocation assistance

·       Support for continuing education, including courses, seminars, and conferences

We care about doing good work at a pace you can sustain. Long hours are not the expectation.

HOW TO APPLY

All applicants should submit a CV and cover letter to admin@raengineering.ca. Please specify the job title in the subject line. No phone calls, please. Only those selected for an interview will be contacted.

R+A Engineering is looking for an experienced structural engineer to lead our multi-family residential projects. You will act as the engineer of record on mid-rise housing, taking projects from proposal through to final schedules and owning both the design and the client relationship.

ABOUT THE ROLE

Our multi-family work includes five and six storey wood-frame on concrete podium buildings. These include mixed-use developments, market, and affordable housing across BC and Alberta. As the lead on these projects, you would be responsible for the structural design, drawing production and details, construction administration, and the working relationships with architects, developers, and contractors. You will be the main structural contact, driving progress and working along side a strong team of EITs and technologists.

We are looking for real experience in Multi-Family Residential design: lateral system design for mid-rise wood, shrinkage and differential movement detailing, MEP coordination, and constructability considerations. You would also work with the principals to develop the scopes, fees, and schedules for your own projects.

WHAT WE ARE LOOKING FOR

·      A degree in engineering and registration as a P.Eng. with EGBC

·      Substantial multi-family residential experience, enough to run projects independently (7+ years)

·      A strong working knowledge of the BCBC

·      A practical approach to design and an understanding of how buildings are actually built

·      Strong written and verbal communication

·      Experience with Sizer/Forte, SAFE, ETABS, RFEM, and Revit is an asset

WHAT R+A OFFERS

We are a small firm, which means you would lead your own projects rather than work on pieces of someone else's, and you would have direct access to the principals. We have invested in good systems and clear workflows, so your time can actually go to engineering. Alongside the multi-family work, there is variety when you want it, including custom homes, commercial, and institutional projects, with a client base that includes some of the region's most respected architects and developers.

LOCATION

This role can be based in our Vernon office, which is our preference, or worked remotely from Vancouver Island. We have active clients and projects on the Island that need local coverage.

COMPENSATION AND BENEFITS

·       Base salary of $110,000 to $140,000, depending on experience

·       Performance bonus, with project-based profit share for senior project leads

·       Extended health benefits

·       Flexible schedule and relocation assistance

·       Support for continuing education, including courses, seminars, and conferences
